Look, I realize Mark Prior’s debut was a pretty big deal, but you really should take another look at the relative play you gave Wednesday’s Cubs and Sox games in the Thursday paper.
For the Cubs, there was a good first start for a dreadful fifth-place team. For the Sox, there was a far better game pitched by another young pitcher, Jon Garland, against a home team with the best record in the majors. And the win put the Sox back in first place.
So what does the Tribune do? Gives the Cubs game a banner headline, a lead column and dominant coverage. And sticks the Sox’s dramatic return to first place below the fold in a little story.
The game accounts and the column were well-written, but the Tribune really needs to do more writing about Chicago’s one baseball team that knows how to play the game.
