Eric B. Moch, 69, died in Treasure Island, FL, Sunday, May 19. Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Eric came to the United States in 1939 at age six with his parents, Lotte and Sol and grandmother, Johanna. They had been fortunate to work their way through Switzerland and France and gain passage to the United States. Upon arriving in the U.S., Eric and his family settled in the Hyde Park area of Chicago, where he attended Hyde Park High School. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Roosevelt University, where he met his wife, Barbara, and then earned his doctorate from Loyola University, Chicago. He taught German and Spanish at Senn and Von Steuben High Schools on Chicago’s north side. He also served in Germany in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. Eric ended his long career in education in 1990 as director of Admissions & Records at Northeastern Illinois University. He also served on the Niles Township District 219 and Lincolnwood District 74 Boards of Education and was active in Lincolnwood Girls Softball. Eric is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Barbara; daughters, Adrienne Moch of San Diego, CA, Laura (Paul) DeGrandis of Wilmette, IL and Robin Moch of Lutz, FL; and was “Poppa” to Jenna and Gabriel DeGrandis. Eric truly lived the American dream. Services will be held at David C. Gross Funeral Home, St. Petersburg, FL, 727-381- 4911. In lieu of flowers, the Moch family has requested that donations be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 800-344-4863.
