Eric B. Moch, 69, formerly of Lincolnwood, director of admissions and records at Northeastern Illinois University, died of heart failure Sunday, May 19, at his home in Treasure Island, Fla. Born in Stuttgart, Germany, Mr. Moch came to the United States in 1939 with his family after his father escaped from a Nazi work camp. They settled in Hyde Park, where Mr. Moch’s father opened a grocery store. . After service in the Army he returned to Chicago and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Roosevelt University. While there, friends introduced him to Barbara Rowe, who was also studying to be a teacher. The two were married in 1957 and moved to Lincolnwood in 1964. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Mr. Moch taught German and Spanish at Senn and Von Steuben High Schools on the Northwest Side while earning a doctorate in education administration from Loyola University. “He was like the teacher that all the students wanted to have. I remember when I was a child, we’d be out to dinner and his old students would come and thank him for his efforts years after they’d graduated,” said his daughter, Laura DeGrandis. In 1967 Mr. Moch went to work as the assistant director of admissions and records at Northeastern Illinois University. He became director of admissions in 1973. Mr. Moch retired in 1990 to Treasure Island, near St. Petersburg. Other survivors include his wife, Barbara; two other daughters, Adrienne and Robin; and two grandchildren. Services were held in St. Petersburg.
