I read with much interest Steve Chapman’s May 12 column, “Whose aim is true on guns?” on the recent clarification of the 2nd Amendment. What puzzles me is how he comes up with questioning “how to balance the rights of gun owners with the safety of everyone else.”

The 2nd Amendment is grounded in the safety of Americans: against criminals, against foreign invaders and in the unlikely event that one’s own government tyrannically usurps the authority originally penned by the founding fathers.
