The Service Corps of Retired Executives, or SCORE, is offering two workshops for small business entrepreneurs. They are presented by leading business professionals from the community who volunteer to share their knowledge. The first workshop will be offered June 22 and cover business planning, accounting procedures, legal requirements and marketing. The second workshop, to be offered on July 13, will focus on banking and business loans, home businesses, insurance requirements and case histories. The workshops, co-sponsored by College of DuPage, are designed to help individuals start a business or improve an up-and-running one. The cost is $50 for one workshop or $75 for both. A second person from the same company will be charged $40 for one workshop and $60 for both. Both workshops will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Rooms 128A&C at the College of DuPage, Open Campus Center, southwest corner of Lambert Road and 22nd Street, Glen Ellyn. Older workers get job fair
Robert Schout of PowerSkills Training and Development will speak on “The Power of Your Presence: Capitalizing on Your Strengths in an Era of Change” at the Beyond 50 Job Fair to be held Thursday in Oakbrook Terrace. Schout will address changes in the workplace and employer expectations since the Sept. 11 attacks. Andrew Kindler of Oak Consulting, a human resource and career transition consulting firm, will present “Generational Diversity.” People age 50 or older are invited to the free fair from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Drury Lane Oakbrook Terrace. The fair is an opportunity to link such people with companies that recruit and value older workers.
Editor eyes Chicago style
The free seminar “The Best of Chicago Style” will be presented by House & Garden editor Dominique Browning in Toms-Price Home Furnishings, 303 E. Front St., Wheaton. Firm wins design awards
Katherine Frank Creative Inc., a marketing and communications company based in Lombard, has earned a bronze Outstanding Merchandise Achievement Award in the permanent hair and skin care category for the point-of-purchase display it created for professional beauty manufacturer Innovative Styling Options. The design also won gold in two categories from the Design of the Times 2001 The Best of What’s in Store competition.
Weather anchor to speak
Tammie Souza, weather anchorwoman for WMAQ-Channel 5 in Chicago and a Willowbrook native, will be the guest speaker at the June 5 luncheon meeting of the Willowbrook-Burr Ridge Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Chamber plans expo
The Downers Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry will hold Expo 2002: Show Up and Show Off on Sept. 18 in the Abbington in Glen Ellyn.
