A study suggesting ways to improve Lake County transportation has drawn the opposition of a consortium of northwest suburbs.
The Barrington Area of Council of Governments Tuesday unanimously voted to object to to a proposal to convert the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railroad into a passenger line and the widening of Ela and Cuba Roads. The organization does favor the expansion of bicycle paths and local bus routes.
Commenting on Lake County Year 2020 Transportation Priorities Program, the members of the executive board reinforced its continuing opposition to the EJ&E as a commuter line because of the traffic congestion that would be caused by the increased number of trains per day at grade crossings.
