Rose Gold, a self-taught singer from Chicago known for her renditions of popular hits, died of complications from leukemia Sunday, May 26, at Resurrection St. Joseph Hospital, Chicago. Ms. Gold, whose stage name was Lee Randall, was 76. She began her singing career early, working for the USO during World War II, said her daughter, Joan Gold of San Francisco. Ms. Gold put her career on hold to raise her two children. But in the late 1960s, she began singing at places along Rush Street. “She was exciting,” said a longtime friend, Anita Olken of Chicago. “When she sang, people didn’t want her to stop.” Ms. Gold retired about 10 years ago but kept an organ in her apartment on Lake Shore Drive and entertained visitors, relatives said. Six months ago, she sang at her son’s wedding. In addition to her daughter, Ms. Gold is survived by a son, Rick Gold of San Francisco. Funeral services were private.
