Robert L. Simons, Physician, Actor, Producer, age 79, of Marina del Rey, CA, formerly of Chicago, died May 25. Dr. “Bob”, as he was known by his patients, practiced internal medicine for 25 years in Chicago and was affiliated with the Weiss Memorial Hospital and the University of Illinois. Dr. Simons was a graduate of the University of Illinois medical school and served as a Captain in the Air Force during the Korean War. In the 1960’s and 70’s Bob acted in many community and professional theatre productions in the Chicago area. In 1965 he opened the Country Club Theatre in the Old Orchard Country Club. It was one of the first equity dinner theatres of its kind. He also appeared in one of the first films directed by the now famous Robert Altman. In 1977 he moved to California and became Medical Director for Aetna Insurance and for Bridgeway Health Systems. Dr. Simons is survived by his wife of 57 years Florence, nee Newman; and his four children, Hardye (Dr. Donald Moel), John, David (Teresa) and Peter (Diane); he is also the cherished grandfather of nine; he is also survived by his sisters-in-law Gloria Simons and Aileen Miller (Burt). Services were held in Mission Hills, CA on May 28. Donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
