Patricia G. Murphy, of Evanston, died at age 68 on June 2, 2002. She is survived by Stanley H. Murphy, her husband of 35 years; her children, Patrick Murphy, Columbus, IN, Richard Harden, Champaign, IL and Pamela Harden, also of Evanston; and four grandchildren. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism in 1955, and worked for the Chicago American, Tribune and Sun-Times. The Tribune and Sun-Times published a number of her articles in their Sunday magazines about Evanston, including one about the former Herdrich’s Dime Store and another concerning former Schools Superintendent Gregory Coffin and the desegregation of schools controversy. Later, she worked in Public Relations for the Portland Cement Association and as an Editor of Pit & Quarry and other magazines. She also did freelance writing, editing and helped her husband in his business. Funeral services will be held in Paris, MO on June 8, and a Memorial Service is planned for June 15 at Covenant United Methodist Church, Evanston.
