My best friend, Linda, and I would eagerly await each new Nancy Drew mystery back in the late 1950s. Nancy Drew made us feel like a girl could do anything at a time when society said otherwise. She is part of the reason that I pursued a science degree (not common for a young woman in the middle 1960s) and Linda got a journalism degree and regularly tries her hand at writing.
