Iola Ruth Turek, 79, of Sycamore and formerly of LaGrange, IL, died Sunday June 9, 2002, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, in Dekalb, IL. Born February 5, 1923, in Tell City, IN, the daughter of Walter and Verlie, nee Lawrence, Lamkin. She married Arthur J. Turek on February 11, 1950 in Berwyn, IL. Ruth was a First Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps during WW II, serving in the Pacific Theater. She retired from the Hines V.A. Hospital, where she was a registered nurse, and started the Hospice unit. She graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing and did post graduate studies at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is survived by her husband, Arthur Turek of Sycamore; children, Ava (Robert) Woodard of Cookeville, TN, Andrew Turek, Alanna Eiter of Countryside, IL, and Ana Linn of Oakdale, CT; six grandchildren, Amanda Woodard, Jason Linn, Jennifer Woodard, Daniel Linn, James Eiter and Michelle Eiter; two brothers, Donald Lamkin and Keith Lamkin; three sisters, Barbara Voorhies, Nova Newell and Joyce Robinson, all of IN. She is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Elizabeth Clark, Mildred Hochang and Norma Lamkin. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday June 12, 2002, at The Church of Saint Mary, 244 Waterman St., Sycamore. Interment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, at the Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home.
