Bensenville trustees have given preliminary approval to an ordinance establishing a three-person Board of Local Improvements.

The action taken last week will give the small panel the authority to approve recommendations from the village’s engineering staff, specifically for a new special assessment area.

The village wants to make several improvements, including installing curbs and gutters, street utilities, and sidewalks in the Brookwood Pleasant area, which is north of Irving Park Road and west of York Road. The area includes about 30 parcels, some with abandoned structures.

Deputy Village Manager Jim Johnson said the board’s makeup has not yet been determined.

Among the first actions the panel is expected to take is passing a resolution describing the proposed improvements, setting up a public hearing and outlining the properties that will be affected by the project.

The ordinance establishing the panel will be scheduled for a second reading before final Village Board action is taken.
