Your last statement in “A challenge for Cardinal George” (Editorial, June 2), which reads, “If [George] carries but one message to Dallas, let it be that reforms–and consequences–within the U.S. church need to begin at the top,” is absolutely correct.

But the Dallas meeting is preordained to fail.

The “top” is where the problem began. Do you think those responsible will chastise themselves? They will protect themselves and their own above all else. With egos as big as these men, there’s no hope for their redemption.
