Elizabeth Neyman, 85, a social worker and single mother, died of heart failure Tuesday, June 11 in Weiss Memorial Hospital. Born in Buffalo, Mrs. Neyman served in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. She received a master’s degrees in guidance from the University of Chicago and in social work from the University of Southern California. She had her only daughter at age 44, and soon after, moved to Evanston, where she stayed until 1992. She chose to live in Evanston, her daughter, Patricia Neyman-Wolter, said, because she wanted to live in a diverse community. “She was very liberal and open minded,” her daughter said. “I remember her taking me on marches when Martin Luther King died. She was very passionate about equal rights for women and people of color.” Mrs. Neyman frequently opened her home to foreign exchange students and was an avid traveler. Shortly after her daughter entered kindergarten, she returned to social work at an adoption agency in Lake Bluff. She divorced her husband in 1970.. Other survivors include two grandchildren. Services will be held at noon June 21 in Memorial Park Cemetery, 9900 Gross Point Rd., Skokie.
