William J. Small, 75, who worked in the admissions office for area racetracks, died of cancer Monday, June 10, in his Mt. Prospect home. The Chicago native worked as a printer for Century Engraving Co. in Chicago. He served in the Army in the Korean War. After his service, he returned to his printing job. In the early 1970s he began working in the admissions office responsible for counting money at Sportsman’s Park and Hawthorne Race Course in Cicero and at Balmoral Park in Crete. He retired in 1999. Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, and a brother, Robert. A visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Glueckert Funeral Home Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights. Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home. A mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. James Catholic Church, 831 N. Arlington Heights Rd., Arlington Heights.
