We had suicide bombers in World War II. They were called kamikaze pilots. They were willing–eager, in fact–to kill themselves in order to destroy American ships and the men on them.
Did we say, “Oh, these poor people. They’re so desperate, they’ll kill themselves!” No, we said they were brainwashed by the emperor and we hated them. Suicide bombers on Sept. 11? We hate them! What’s the difference? Could it possibly be that the Palestinian bombers are killing the Israelis, who are Jews? So that’s understandable? Could people think this way in 2002?
Alas, yes.
