Henry Miller, 82, of Mt. Prospect, a retired head auditor for the former Continental Illinois National Bank in Chicago, died Tuesday, June 11, in The Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights. He was born in Blue Island and raised in foster homes throughout the Chicago area. Mr. Miller lost the sight in his left eye when he was 12 years old because of undetected scarlet fever. Despite that disability, he went on to work as an auditor for more than 25 years. “He had to overcome a lot when he was younger. But he never said a bad word about anyone and never held grudges,” said his son, Robert. In World War II, Mr. Miller worked in the accounting department at Ford Aircraft in Chicago. He met his future wife, Leanore, through a foster family in Evanston, and they married in 1949 in Chicago. In the mid-1950s Mr. Miller joined Continental and was eventually named its head auditor. He retired in the early 1980s. He enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, fishing and golfing. Other survivors include his wife and three grandchildren. A visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday in Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Peter Lutheran Church, 111 W. Olive St., Arlington Heights, followed immediately by a service in the church.
