Fred Kilar, 85, of Hanover Park, who spent more than 30 years making jukeboxes, died of complications from a heart attack Saturday, June 15, in St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. Born in Detroit, Mr. Kilar was a young boy when he moved with his family to Chicago. He served in the Army during World War II and participated in the African and European campaigns. After his military service, Mr. Kilar began working at J.P. Seeburg Co., a manufacturer of jukeboxes in Chicago. Mr. Kilar worked on the assembly line and eventually became a foreman. He retired in the mid-1970s and moved to Hanover Park, where he became an avid gardener and photographer. “If you needed anything, he would do what ever he could to help,” said his neighbor Frances Skotzko, who added that Mr. Kilar would drive friends to the hospital or lend his lawnmower and other tools to neighbors. “For anyone who was in a pinch, he was always there for them,” Skotzko said. Mr. Kilar is survived by two brothers, Henry and Thomas. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Salerno’s Rosedale Chapel, 450 W. Lake St., Roselle. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
