I fully support the war on terrorism. But Jose Padilla is an American citizen and should be treated as such, regardless of his crimes.
I cannot support the decision to place an American civilian in military custody. If they wanted to put a $100 million bond on him to prevent flight, that’s fine. If they want to keep him in maximum security until trial, that’s fine. But to keep him in a military camp is disappointing. We’re apparently willing to cede even our most basic civil rights because of terrorists.
