Gary J. Katzan, 59, of Fox River Grove, a retired electrical engineer, died of heart failure Sunday, June 16, in Reedsburg Area Medical Center in Wisconsin. Born and raised in Cleveland, Mr. Katzan graduated from the DeVry Institute in Chicago with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Mr. Katzan worked in research and development for several Chicago-area companies, including Recon/Optical Inc. and Northrup Grumman. Mr. Katzan also worked for more than 10 years at Knowles Electronics Inc. Mr. Katzan retired last year. “He had a very big heart,” said his wife, Karen, who added her husband would help friends and neighbors with mechanical repairs. “He could fix anything.” Mr. Katzan is also survived by two daughters, Jodi Stevens and Kathleen Askin; a sister, Judy Krish; and two grandchildren. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday in Windridge Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 7014 S. Rawson Bridge Rd., Cary.
