Recent letters from readers cynically comparing President Bush’s position on oil drilling off the Florida coast versus doing so in the Alaskan wilderness area overlook one key difference. While the majority of Floridians are opposed to the drilling in their state, the overwhelming majority of Alaskans are in favor of further drilling in their state.
Alaskans have repeatedly expressed their unhappiness with the fact that these restrictions are being placed on them by people who have never been to Alaska, never will travel there and have not the slightest notion of how massive the wilderness area is in relation to the tiny drilling area being proposed.
