In your Friday, June 14 edition, Preps Plus featured 20 young scholar athletes. Several of the female athletes’ bios were subtly demeaning: “humble, unassuming” . . . “low-key young lady, hardly knew she was there half the time” . . . “tentative” . . . “always worried” . . . “little freshman” and “she’s a little girl.”

In comparison, phrases such as “intimidating presence,” “intense,” “hard-nosed temperament,” “aggressive” and “force to be reckoned with,” to name a few, were interspersed in the male athletes’ biographies.

All people, including women, should be recognized fairly and accurately for their accomplishments in sports.
