The recent weekend series between the Cubs and White Sox reminded me of what a splendid, unparalleled sports rivalry we have here in Chicago, far more interesting than that of the Yankees and Mets. The Yankees and Mets need unsportsmanlike conduct and the fixation of the national media to make their rivalry interesting.

In Chicago, on the other hand, you have a rivalry of perfect symmetry that includes not just the teams, but the fans as well: a bunch of broken-down losers devoting their lives to supporting a team of overpaid bozos versus a bunch of overpaid bozos devoting their lives to support a team of broken-down losers.

I’ll leave you to figure out who is who.
