I would like to relay a short story of how Ann Landers helped me and my family.

In 1967, I was a soldier in Vietnam and had been hospitalized in Saigon. One day, in walks Ann Landers. Now I’ll tell you, I was pretty surprised. She asked me how I was doing, and when she noticed my wedding band, she asked if she could call my wife when she got back in the States. I was thrilled and gave her the information. I had lost contact with my family due to my injuries and because I had been transferred from another hospital.

After some time, I received letters from my wife and family and was very happy to hear that Ann Landers did, indeed, contact my wife upon her return to Chicago. The best thing is, it was really Ann Landers and not just another person assigned to do all the calling that she promised the GIs in Vietnam.

I will never forget what she did for me, and I am sure that she did the same for others in her life.
