Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

When Ann Landers created all that fury with her infamous pope statement, I wrote to her at the tail end of it. It was a friendly letter expressing my thoughts about the situation that she got herself into.

Well, about a week or so later, I answered my phone one evening and the voice first verified who I was and then said, “Hi, Ed, this is Ann Landers.”

As unbelievable as that phone call was, I knew it was Ann Landers. She spoke to me as if we were longtime friends. We probably were, through her column.

As the phone call was terminating, I said, “Oh, Ann, by the way, I’m going to renew my subscription to the Trib tomorrow.”

She thanked me and actually was very happy about that.

Anytime friends of mine will listen, I will relate that story to them.
