Thomas W. Hamm, 66, of Lebanon, IN, retired president of Indianapolis based Metal Merchants, Inc. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2002, in St. Monica Catholic Church, with calling from 4 to 8 p.m., in the Church’s Chapel on Thursday, June 27, 2002. Burial will be in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery following the service. He died June 22, 2002, surrounded by loving family. Mr. Hamm recently retired from Metal Merchants, Inc., which he and his partner, John Shreve established in 1981. The business continues to thrive based on the integrity and the reputation of its founding partners. Mr. Hamm started in 1964 as an inside sales representative for the Inland Steel Corporation following five years as an officer in the United States Navy, for which he volunteered. Commissioned, April of 1959, he married his first wife of 38 years, Doctor Virginia Voytech Hamm in June and was stationed on the USS Carter Hall LSD III. He rose from Ensign to full Lieutenant by 1963. The watch given him by his men upon resignation in appreciation of his service he wore proudly for the rest of his life. Mr. Hamm, a devoted family man, is survived by his second wife of three years and long time family friend, Judy Riddle Hamm; children, Joseph W. Hamm and his wife, Clara Moko, Jessica C. Hamm and Jennifer H. Hamm; grandson, Maxwell Thomas Moko Hamm; and cousins, John Harmon and family, and Robert and Howard Hamm. He is mourned as well by Judy’s children, Caren Appleson, Cynthia Petro and Allison Gunner and their respective families.
