Adele M. Boyle, 71, of Mt. Prospect, insisted that her pupils knew how to write and use correct grammar by they time they left St. Emily Catholic School in Mt. Prospect, former colleagues and family members said. “Those kids left knowing what they had to know,” said Sister Danielle Jacob, principal. “She was a no-nonsense teacher and the kids respected that.” Born in Jersey City, N.J., Mrs. Boyle died of complications from a lung infection Saturday, June 22, in St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. Mrs. Boyle graduated from the Fordham University School of Education in New York City in 1953 with a bachelor of science degree in secondary education. She spent her teaching career in Catholic schools and after working as a high school teacher in New Jersey, Mrs. Boyle moved to the Chicago area in the early 1960s. She settled in Mt. Prospect in 1965. She took time off to raise her children, all of whom were adopted. “She was just an amazing and strong person,” said her daughter Beth Gilbert. “No matter what came her way, she handled it.” After working as a substitute teacher at St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights in the late 1970s, she was hired by St. Emily Catholic School in Mt. Prospect, where she taught English to middle school pupils. She retired in 1996. Mrs. Boyle is also survived by another daughter, Jean Babikan; three sons, Mark, Matt and John; a brother, Robert McLean; a sister, Elizabeth Williams; and seven grandchildren. Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Friday in Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect. A mass will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Emily Catholic Church, 1400 E. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect.
