The Crate & Barrel doormat about which John Kass wrote barely evokes Old Glory (“Star Doormat is uninviting way to sell patriotism,” News, June 19). I read the column and went promptly to the Crate & Barrel Web site, ready to be in a snit about an inappropriate representation of the flag. Had the doormat actually looked like the flag, Crate & Barrel CEO Gordon Segal would be the target of my vitriol.
But the doormat isn’t even an approximation of the flag. Not even close. Why is Kass getting upset about a rug with two blue bars, one red bar and some white stars?
I’m marching out to Crate & Barrel and buying one of those handsome patriotic doormats.
Kass is a talented and entertaining columnist, but this time, he made much ado about nada, zero, zilch, nothing.
