Not knowing what else to do, I used to pray for peace in the Middle East. I stopped a few months ago. It seemed that none of the participants wanted peace. The citizenry on both sides seemed content to let their aging warrior-leaders act out their psychodrama of potency and righteousness no matter what the cost.

Emily L. Hauser’s “With a broken heart; After decades of failed peacemaking attempts, it’s apparent the only solution is 2 states–Israel and Palestine” (Commentary, June 25) brought me to tears and to a renewed determination to pray for peace. Her courage and humanity, along with those of like-minded Israelis and Palestinians, are the only sources of hope for a solution.
