To quote Sam Smith, “Someone tie that man down and gag him.”
Smith’s endless speculation about what Jerry Krause (or China) might do to screw up the Bulls’ first-round draft pick was maddening. I’m not sure who has 225 Ping Pong balls bouncing around inside his head, Smith for some of his “rumors,” or me for having read them.
Smith proposed that fans should “beware Krause’s maneuvers” (Tribune, June 24th), as it is Krause’s penchant for “not doing the obvious” just as it is Smith’s to feed the fans with fruitless fodder. Two days later another speculative Smith report that the Yao Ming deal might not work out with Houston and a curious Smith comment: “Could Jerry Krause’s hopes and those of Bulls fans be squashed?” Wait a minute, wasn’t it two days ago that Smith said Krause was interested in trading the pick, that other avenues appealed to him more than Jay Williams? Now “losing Williams would be a blow to the Bulls?”
Maybe Sam Smith should do the obvious some time and try to separate fact from faction.
