The Chicago Tribune Price Pulse is a snapshot of the number of homes sold and median prices in the six-county Chicago area. Note to sellers: Appreciation might be higher or lower for your type of home than for the broader market. Also, in communities with only a few sales, the median prices likely do not represent overall housing values.
The aim of this database is to give the most up-to-date tally of residential sales — single-family houses, townhouses and condominiums — in a three-month period compared with sales and prices for the year-earlier period. The data is updated monthly.
The sales and median price data, compiled by Record Information Services, is culled from public records, rather than from a private source, to give the most complete picture possible of new construction and existing-home sales as well as private transactions.
Note to buyers: Half the sales are above and half are below these median figures, so many communities will have homes in your price range.
