It was nice to read how concerned U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) is with transporting nuclear waste through Illinois to Yucca Mountain in Nevada (“A crossroads in nuclear waste storage,” Commentary, July 9).

But, if he were truly concerned, he would ask Congress to end the production of nuclear energy (and its wastes) and allocate substantial funds to developing clean, renewable energy sources. Now that would be leadership the country needs and deserves.
