Regarding Mil Misic’s lament on the high use of cell phones (“An inconceivable desire to use a cell phone,” Voice of the People, Aug. 8), these people are just being thrifty.
Most call plans offer thousands of minutes for $50 to $70 a month. If I were paying such a ridiculous amount for one phone that could only be used by one person and had to be kept with that person all the time, I would use every second.
I agree with Misic, no one but a doctor, emergency personnel, or a person on a transplant list needs a cell phone glued to his or her ear 2-3 hours a day.
Cell phone companies need to offer low cost ($10-$20 a month) programs that allow a reasonable number of minutes to cover urgent situations, but do not encourage rampant, ignore-everything-else use.
Let peace and quiet reign.
