How sad that Chicagoans and people from around the world will be deprived of even one piece of Chihuly glass art due to vandalism at the Garfield Park Conservatory (“Glass art shattered at Chihuly exhibit,” Page 1, Aug. 19).

What was in the mind of the conservatory administrators to allow partygoers the run of the Chihuly exhibit? Did the Park District officials really think that $2 million of insurance could ever make up for loss or destruction of this great art?
