Joe Girardi believes the baseball owners tear down their players and don’t try to build them up. I agree with Girardi–the owners do tear down the players. However, the players bring a lot of criticism on themselves and lose the support of fans. Players such as Barry Bonds, Frank Thomas, Carl Everett and Rickey Henderson are prime examples.

Also, the players should work hard not to lose fan support by saying the wrong things at the wrong time. Who can ever forget the comments by White Sox shortstop Ozzie Guillen before the 1994 strike? Guillen’s response to a question about the fans: “We don’t owe the fans anything.” I guess stupid people say stupid things.
