Attending the recent PGA Golf Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn., my wife and I were near the 11th tee as Rich Beem, Scott Hoch and Robert Allenby approached. Beem happened to notice a young fan–a boy about 6 or 7–standing there and handed him his golf ball.

At that point, we didn’t know who Rich Beem was, but as a result of witnessing that act of kindness, we became instant fans.

What a thrill it was for us to see Beem become the 2002 PGA champion. But we already knew that he was a winner.
