A 9-year-old girl who vanished last week while on a supervised visit with her mother in Bakersfield, Calif., was found Saturday at a highway rest stop in San Diego County, where her mother was taken into custody, officials said.
Acting on a tip from a motorist after a statewide missing child alert, the California Highway Patrol found Cierra Rose Walden and apprehended her mother, Pamela Walden, 50.
Pamela Walden, who was described as mentally unstable and suffering from delusions, lost custody of Cierra about a month ago and apparently kidnapped the child Thursday after a supervised visit at a local government office.
Cierra was the second missing child to be recovered in San Diego in two days.
