Officials have scheduled a meeting for 6:30 p.m. Monday in City Hall to propose a self-generating electricity plan.

The city’s present contract with Wisconsin Electric Power Co.–which allows Geneva to enjoy a market cost 25 to 30 percent less than that of adjacent communities–expires without the possibility of renewal in 2005.

City Electric Supt. Jim Greever told aldermen recently that the self-generation plan would yield an average savings of 8 percent for residents over a 20-year period. The city would also have the ability to sell any excess output, he said.

Details of the plan, including environmental impact information, will be presented at the meeting.
