I was in school and the news did not reach me till about 1:15 p.m. I remember the first thing I felt was curiosity; I wanted to know more of what was going on. When that was answered, I know I felt worried that a war was starting, which was right, but I was thinking more along the lines of nuclear winter.
It was as if it had happened in a faraway land that had nothing to do with me.
