ALSIP

– The Alsip Fire Department will lower the U.S. flag to half-staff and a ceremonial bell will sound the traditional last alarm at 9:05 a.m. Wednesday at the fire station, 12600 S. Pulaski Rd. The bell will sound again at 9:28 a.m. and the flag will be raised. Call 708-385-6902.

– The village will ring bells in honor of the victims of Sept. 11 at 9:05 and 9:28 a.m. Wednesday at Fire Station 1, 2434 Vermont St. A silent procession will make its way to Eisenhower School, 12700 Sacramento Ave., and a service will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the school’s football field. – The city will dedicate two memorials to Police and Fire Department personnel who died in the line of duty. The dedication starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 6700 W. 26th St.

– Admission will be free Wednesday at Brookfield Zoo, 8400 31st St.

CALUMET CITY

– A remembrance and appreciation ceremony for police, firefighters and emergency workers will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Thornton Fractional North High School, 705 Pulaski Ave.

CHICAGO

– Visitors may contribute to photographs and written sentiments on display in the Sept. 11 Photo Project on the 1st floor of the Harold Washington Library Center, 400 S. State St. The exhibit continues through Sept. 21.

– Pinwheels and panels may be adorned with thoughts about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks through Tuesday in the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, 2430 N. Cannon Drive. Admission will be free Wednesday.

– All proceeds from the Terra Museum of American Art’s suggested donation this week will be given to the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, an arts group that had been housed in the World Trade Center. The museum is at 664 N. Michigan Ave.

– The American Friends Service Committee will lead a forum, “On the Need for a Moral Voice Against War,” and a candlelight vigil at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Grace Place, 637 S. Dearborn St.

– A memorial service with singing and a speech by Rev. Charles Faso will be held at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Mound, Chicago Road and 14th Street.

– The Fire and Police Departments will lower flags to half-staff, ring bells and read the names of each firefighter who died in the World Trade Center at 10 a.m. Wednesday outside Firehouse 1, at 156th Street and Center Avenue.

– City leaders will join Imam W. Deen Mohammed, leader of the Muslim American Society, for a town hall meeting and prayer service at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in City Hall, 125 Broadway.

HOMEWOOD

– City officials will lay three wreaths–one each for firefighters, police and civilians who died in the World Trade Center–at 8 a.m. Wednesday in Veterans Memorial Park, Olive Road and Harwood Avenue.

NORTHBROOK

– Firefighters will stand in silence at 10 and at 10:29 a.m. Wednesday at all three Northbrook stations.

– A firefighters tribute will be held at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday at the main fire station, 100 N. Euclid Ave. Community members may bring candles to a 7:30 p.m. program in Scoville Park, Oak Park Avenue and Lake Street.

SCHILLER PARK

– The Westwood College Student Association will honor six firefighters who worked at ground zero in New York City at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Westwood College of Technology, Room 23A, 4825 N. Scott St.

SKOKIE

– The Skokie Stands United remembrance ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Village Hall, 5127 Oakton St.
