– County officials will dedicate the new Police and Firefighters Memorial at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the DuPage County Complex, next to the Veterans Memorial, County Farm and Manchester Roads, Wheaton.
ELMHURST
– Two members from the Fire and Police Departments will form an honor guard mustering at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday for a service at City Hall. At 7 p.m. a community gathering will take place in the Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel auditorium at Elmhurst College, 190 Prospect Ave. Music will be provided by an Elmhurst College choral ensemble.

LISLE
– DuPage County will hold DuPage Remembers and Gives: A Day of Volunteerism on Wednesday in cooperation with the Morton Arboretum. An inspirational rally will be held from 11 a.m. to noon in the arboretum, 4100 Illinois Highway 53. A public tree planting will be held at noon in remembrance of the heroes and victims of the Sept. 11 attacks. Volunteers will then go to local non-profit organizations to perform their service activities for the rest of the afternoon. Admission to the arboretum will be free.
– Benedictine University and the Humanitarian Service Project will conduct a community collection drive to benefit needy seniors and children in DuPage County from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday on the lawn of the university’s Dan and Ada Rice Center, 5700 College Ave. There also will be a prayer chain from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
LOMBARD
– Commemorations of Sept. 11 will be held at both fire stations, 50 E. St. Charles Rd. and 2020 S. Highland Ave., with a flag ceremony and a bell ceremony at 9:05 a.m Wednesday. The public may visit the stations throughout the day. The village will hold a silent parade at 7:30 p.m. from both north and south Main Street. A candlelight Community Remembrance Service will be held following the parade in Lilacia Park.
– Christ the King Catholic Church, 1501 S. Main St., will hold a service in remembrance of those killed on Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
NAPERVILLE
– DuPage Peace through Justice Coalition will hold a peace vigil from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Dandelion Fountain, at Webster Street and Jackson Avenue, moving along the Riverwalk
– A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday for a memorial to those who were killed on Sept. 11. The ceremony, including a moment of silence at 8:37 a.m., will take place on the northeast corner of the Municipal Center, adjacent to the site of the memorial. Relics from the Pentagon and World Trade Center that will be incorporated into a sculpture will be on display.
– St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, 2220 Lisson Rd., will celebrate a vigil mass at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
– “Remembrance, Healing, and Hope,” a program featuring representatives from various faiths, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Millennium Carillon, on Aurora Avenue, a quarter-mile west of Washington Street, on the Riverwalk.
– The public may participate in a blood drive from 3 to 7:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Rd. A multimedia experience, consisting of prayer, dramatization, music, liturgical dance and video, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the church.

– The village will hold a memorial service at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Village Commons, 1200 Oak Brook Rd. Senior pastors at two Oak Brook churches will give benedictions, patriotic music will be played and a salute will be given by the Fire and Police Departments.

– The public library and the village will offer a program honoring local heroes at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the library, 40 S. Park St. Members of the Fire and Police Departments will tell personal stories of courage, hope and bravery.
ST. CHARLES
– School District 303 will host an hour of activities honoring those killed in the terrorist attacks. The tribute begins at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday at Thompson Middle School, 705 W Main St.
VILLA PARK
– An interfaith service led by the Council of Islamic Organizations will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Islamic Foundation, 300 W. Highridge Rd.
WEST CHICAGO
– Boy Scout Troop 615 will distribute 5,000 flags beginning at 5 a.m. Saturday throughout the city parkways to remind the community of Sept. 11.
– A memorial service will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the fire station at 200 Fremont St. At 6:30 p.m. a brief ceremony will take place at West Chicago Community High School, 326 Joliet St., followed by a community candlelight procession to the Police and Fire Departments and the Oakwood cemetery.
