Your Aug. 29 editorial “Brewing a revolution” seems to have missed the point of the Berkeley proposal. No, coffee is not evil. Activists, however, might ask: “Do you know where your coffee comes from? Do you know the living conditions of the farmers who supply your coffee?”

Coffee labeled “Fair Trade” is a product guaranteed to come from farmers who make enough to care for themselves and their families. Your statement “It’s just coffee” fails to recognize that our consumption habits have consequences for poor people.
