Patrick Ewing, an 11-time All-Star in 17 NBA seasons, called a news conference for Tuesday amid speculation he was going to announce his retirement.

The New York Times, New York Daily News, Boston Globe and Washington Post, all citing unidentified sources close to Ewing, said Monday he would announce his retirement.

The Daily News and Washington Post had sources saying that Ewing would go to work for the Washington Wizards in some capacity.

– Cleveland Cavaliers center Zydrunas Ilgauskas was arrested early Sunday morning in Bay Village, Ohio, on a charge of driving under the influence.

– Sheryl Swoopes scored 20 points as the United States beat Lithuania 105-48 to advance to the second round of the Women’s World Championship at Shanghai, China.

– The NCAA ruled that freshman Chris Rodgers, regarded as one of the nation’s top point guards when he signed with Arizona last fall, is eligible to play this season as a partial qualifier.
