JJ Comiskey, a junior midfielder known for his defense, came through offensively for host Conant (12-3, 2-0) in a Mid Suburban League soccer match.
Comiskey scored a hat trick in a 23-minute span of the first half Tuesday, leading the Cougars to a 3-2 win over Palatine.
Comiskey opened the scoring at 26:38 from seven yards out into the lower left corner. He made it 2-0 a minute later, tallying a rebound past Richard Nassif (seven saves).
Jeff Mills cut the lead to 2-1 at 21:50 before Comiskey added his third at 14:09.
“We played a pretty good first half,” said Comiskey, who has never scored multiple goals in a game. “But we let them back in in the second half.”
Mike Paxson scored at 33:24 of the second half for Palatine (10-2-2, 1-1-1).

Morton 4, Oak Park 2: Justin Kozak scored half of the goals for the No. 4 Mustangs (13-0-3) in the West Suburban Gold.
Evanston 2, Niles North 2: Arinie Glapajone scored for Niles North (7-4-4, 3-1-3) with less than 20 minutes left to tie No. 5 Evanston (9-1-5) in the Central Suburban South.
Girls volleyball
Sandburg d. Queen of Peace 15-8, 16-14: Colleen Byrne paced No. 1 Sandburg (22-1) with 14 kills and the Eagles scored five unanswered points in Game 2.
No. 8 Queen of Peace (16-6) led 7-0, then 14-11 in Game 2 before Sandburg took the match with a kill-block each from Jenny Keresztes and Patti Melinauskas, an ace by Byrne and two Pride hitting errors.
Downers Grove South d. Proviso East 15-0, 15-2: Krissy Neuman’s five aces were enough for the No. 2 Mustangs (16-2, 4-0) in the West Suburban Gold.
Mundelein d. Conant 15-13, 15-13: Brittany Kessel’s 16 assists led the No. 3 Mustangs (20-1).
Naperville North d. West Aurora 15-3, 15-6: The No. 4 Huskies (19-1, 8-1) used six kills each from Katie Bruzdzinski and Taylor Reinke in the DuPage Valley.
Mother McAuley d. St. Ignatius 8-15, 15-8, 15-8: Lindsey Schmidt’s 30 assists led No. 5 McAuley (18-15, 3-0) in the GCAC Red.
Providence d. St. Viator 15-4, 15-8: Jacque Huguelet’s six kills led the No. 6 Lady Celtics (16-5).
Marian Catholic d. Benet 15-5, 15-7: Brittany Stewart’s nine kills led No. 7 Marian (19-8, 5-1) in the East Suburban Catholic.
Wheaton Warrenville South d. Glenbard North 15-5, 15-5: The No. 10 Tigers (17-2, 8-1) used a 16-assist effort from Katie Weidner in the DuPage Valley.
Boys golf regionals
Antioch: Battling 35-40 m.p.h. winds at Shepherd’s Crook in Zion, Antioch’s Joe Kinney shot a 5-over-par 76 to take first place.
“You can’t really do anything overpowering with the wind,” said Kinney, who salvaged a par 5 on the 548-yard 18th hole with a 6-foot putt. “Given the field, the conditions and the course, I was real pleased with 76.”
Michael Schachner and Kevin Wall tied for second with 77s while Doug Meyer placed sixth to lead Libertyville past Lake Forest 317-324 for the team title.
Larkin: St. Charles North edged Geneva 309-311 for the regional title behind Joe Young’s 1-under 71.
Gary Knight and Sean Courser placed third and tied for fourth, respectively, to lead St. Charles North’s third-year program to its first regional title.
Loyola: Eric Meierderks shot a 70 as New Trier led the way with a 294. Highland Park was second with a 307 and defending state champion Loyola scored 311.
