Top-seeded Jennifer Capriati was eliminated by Conchita Martinez 6-0, 6-3 in the second round of the Swisscom Challenge in Zurich. Capriati had her left ankle taped early in the second set of the 77-minute match after an awkward landing.
– Andy Roddick was eliminated from the Madrid Masters in the second round, losing to unseeded Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-4. Joining the 10th-seeded Roddick on the sidelines was No. 4 Tim Henman, who lost to Paradorn Srichaphan 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
