In response to Steve Chapman’s Oct. 10 column, I say that empowered juries strengthen democracy. Whereas laws are passed under the pressure applied by campaign contributions, juries have no financial stake obscuring their search for truth. The ultimate consequences of laws are more apparent to a jury and deserve consideration.
