This brand-new, 18-room stone castle is the result of a “teardown,” a common occurrence in Hinsdale over the last decade. What is uncommon about the house, at 5823 S. Giddings Ave., is its architectural style and its $3 million selling price–at the high end, even by Hinsdale’s lofty standards. BY THE NUMBERS: Builder Ted Bart paid $450,000 for the previous home on three-fifths of an acre in late 2000, tore it down and built a four-level mansion with stone floors, an elevator, a cherry wood circular staircase in the turret, a cherry paneled library with a fireplace, a 30-by-18-foot family room, a butler’s pantry, two offices, a fully finished walk-out basement with a bar, and a four-car garage.
