To the thousands of volunteers and the police at the Chicago Marathon last Sunday: Thank you. As a competitor, the bright yellow jackets throughout the course and assembly areas were a welcome sight. The smiling faces and the encouraging calls from the water- and aid-station workers made the run very pleasant, especially during the last 10 miles, when physically, you are not feeling very comfortable.
