Story line: Kansas City just can’t hold a lead. Jason Elam kicked a 25-yard field goal with 12:03 left in overtime as visiting Denver (5-2) rallied from a two-touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Chiefs (3-4). The winning kick came after Keith Burns blocked Dan Stryzinski’s punt and Dwayne Carswell recovered at the Kansas City 32.

Star: Shannon Sharpe caught two second-half TD passes. He set a single-game Broncos record with 214 yards receiving and broke Jackie Smith’s league mark for tight ends.

Extra point: Denver’s Mike Anderson forced overtime with 21 seconds left in regulation, scoring on a 2-yard run after Morten Andersen missed a 43-yard field-goal try with 4:37 remaining.
