– Ford Motor Co., citing quality concerns, has halted production of its high-performance 2003 SVT Mustang Cobra. “It was something that was caught at the plant, and it’s something that hopefully has been resolved,” according to a Ford spokesman who wouldn’t specify what caused the stoppage that began about two weeks ago. The Detroit Free Press reports that the problem involved the car’s supercharged V-8. None of the cars with the problem was shipped to dealers or customers.

– Chrysler Group has said it would bring out 11 new models the next couple of years, the heavy-duty Dodge Ram pickup, Jeep Liberty Renegade and Dodge Viper SRT10 in calendar 2002; the Chrysler Crossfire sports coupe, Chrysler Pacifica crossover, Dodge Neon SRT4 and Ram SRT10 in calendar ’03; and the Chrysler and Dodge LX rear-wheel-drive replacements for the front-wheel-drive LH sedans in calendar ’04. That’s nine. Are two more vehicles coming? “Yes, and we aren’t talking about them,” a Chrysler Group source says.
